Dhruv Kapoor Fall 2023 Menswear Review
For this season, Dhruv Kapoor collaborated with the Japanese media franchise Godzilla to develop a part of their fall 2023 collection
Designer Bio
Fearless self-expression, twisted modernity, and a strong emotional current come together to make the brand Dhruv Kapoor. Since its inception in 2013, the brand has been synonymous with revolution, transformation & independence.
By weaving empowerment into the fabric of the label, we aim to break the archaic rules of gender. For centuries, masculine energy has been revered, across cultures, as powerful and commanding. Conditioned by social norms, the world has believed that a feminine energy is less powerful because it is more emotional, more empathetic. But it is this emotion and empathy, combined with definitive power that we use to bring out the best of both energies in our creative expression.
Far from traditional aesthetic imagery, the brand depicts an endless play of past, present, and future. It is an unrestrained reflection of contemporary society and its interactions with the most diverse cultures where convention is re-defined in the tireless search of new perspectives.
The collections are defined by Kapoor’s signature juxtaposing design and attention to detail, with an emphasis on tailoring and an eclectic use of materials and custom-developed fabrics.
Transcending generations, the brand Dhruv Kapoor brings its ideology to life through tools of confident self-expression. Every collection reinterprets aesthetic codes through a new perspective and challenges the norm. Celebrating an individualistic sense of taste and awareness, our ideology thrives on innovation, freedom and empowerment. (SOURCE: Dhruv Kapoor)
Overall Rating (7.6/10)
For this season, Dhruv Kapoor collaborated with the Japanese media franchise Godzilla to develop a part of their fall 2023 collection. Kapoor and Godzilla created oversize shirts, jackets, and shorts with a comic Godzilla print that looked funky and a bit scary. The collaboration with the franchise is very atypical, as most fashion houses collaborate with "cute" looking figures like Hello Kitty or Miffy as these tend to be a lot more marketable. So when Kapoor collaborated with Godzilla, this shows that the brand is experimental and they are willing to take risks because let’s be honest, fashion and Godzilla can go both ways.
The collection also consisted of paint-splattered pieces like suits, jackets with matching flared pants, and jackets drizzled with tiny embellishments. The paint-splattered concept reminds me of the Holi Festival, a festive occasion celebrated in India where people splash each other with colored powders. Furthermore, the collection also includes a distressed maxi denim jacket and cargo jeans, which add more edge to the collection. Our favorite look in the collection is the black vest with floral embellishments, which is a clear nod to one of the pieces that they presented in their spring 2023 collection.
Overall, despite the house collaborating with the least attractive figure in creating their collection, they are able to present a great collection that has plenty of powerful elements, and we believe that throughout the years, we will see Dhruv Kapoor make some more magic with other media franchises.
