Overall, the collection was very experimental. And despite its lack of a cohesive narrative, Dhruv Kapoor’s collection remains an enchanting exploration of the world of fashion.
Designer Bio: Fearless self-expression, twisted modernity, and a strong emotional current come together to make the brand Dhruv Kapoor. Since its inception in 2013, the brand has been synonymous with revolution, transformation & independence.
By weaving empowerment into the fabric of the label, we aim to break the archaic rules of gender. For centuries, masculine energy has been revered, across cultures, as powerful and commanding. Conditioned by social norms, the world has believed that a feminine energy is less powerful because it is more emotional, more empathetic. But it is this emotion and empathy, combined with definitive power that we use to bring out the best of both energies in our creative expression (Source: Dhruv Kapoor).
Review: For spring 2024, Dhruv Kapoor’s Spring 2024 collection was a mixture of sci-fi, minimalism, and eye-catching maximalism, creating a collection that is not so well coordinated. The brand explores the delicate balance between the safe and the experimental, inviting fashionistos on a nostalgic, new-age aesthetic, and enigmatic journey.
Dhruv Kapoor drew inspiration from the brand’s DNA. The floral motifs were a huge part of the collection, which is true to the brand’s signature style. From coordinating ensembles featuring floral prints (Look 25) to exquisite embroidery pieces (Look 37), the infusion of florals can bring charm to any look, elevating its overall appeal. Prints also took center stage; the pattern depicting eyes, nose, mouth, hand, and brain was very captivating. The sensory-inspired print invites contemplation on the impact of our senses and their role in shaping perception. Sci-fi elements were also included, they introduced a boxy shirt emblazoned with the words "new earth" and a graphic image of a planet (Look 4) adding a touch of cosmic fascination.
Furthermore, baggy trousers with a distinct hip-hop influence add a contemporary flair to the overall aesthetic. The vibrant overcoats in bold red and blue, accentuated by exquisite embroidery on the collars (Look 35) make the perfect layering piece for winter, not summer. The fully sequined oversize shirt paired with loose trousers was by far the best look. The play of colors transitioning from red to dark purple made the look more youthful and fun.
