The growth of the menswear industry has resulted in the rise of new players in the fashion world. There are now more brands that offer unique products and fearlessly challenge the status quo. As our society becomes more inclusive and more vocal, the consumers’ demands go beyond style and comfort; they are looking for brands that take a stand on some of the important issues that we have today, and brands that genuinely want to connect with their consumers on a personal level.
Fayazi is an upcoming luxury menswear brand based in Australia that’s making its way into the luxury world through a classic polo shirt. The brand’s courageous attempt to have a slice of the menswear market is very admirable given its $200AUD price tag. Their polo shirts are made of 100% American-grown Supima cotton, which represents less than 1% of the cotton grown in the world, and it is twice as durable as regular cotton. Yes, I am completely aware that the price is quite steep, given the fact that other brands like Hugo Boss or Ralph Lauren offer a similar product for a much more affordable price. Despite this, however, the quality truly speaks for itself. If you're thinking about getting this, definitely get a size up; I have this on a medium, which is my normal size, but I think a large will better accommodate all the weight I gained from the endless Uber Eats during the COVID lockdown.
One of the best things about this brand is its commitment to sustainability, which is quite common for most fashion start-ups nowadays. According to the brand's website:
“We source responsibly and thoughtfully to preserve natural resources. Sustainable and ethical production is a choice; our choice of doing better, being better, and most importantly, cultivating a better future. We strictly analyse and manage the impact our business has on workers and communities in our supply chain, and act in accordance with our sustainable and ethical responsibility." - Fayazi.com.au
Having sustainability as one of their core business values could ensure their competitive edge and brand longevity.
Inclusivity seems to be in the brand’s DNA too. The brand works with people from all walks of life and with a variety of body types; thus, it is very refreshing to see that the brand chose to work with an average guy like myself, who doesn't have a chiseled jawline or broad shoulders and who can give a million excuses to skip a gym session. Let’s hope that the Fayazi will continue to work with different people, and they do not see inclusivity as a box-checking exercise.
Fayazi is a very young brand that has a lot of potential. They are currently operating in a direction where they actively listen to the needs of the consumers, which is very critical in this day and age. Hopefully, in the future, we will see the brand expand its product offering and maybe even create polo shirts that have captivating designs.
